Club Sailing Saturday 4th February

Waitangi weekend and the Wellington 7's - for those real sailors who ignore such trifles today is Bring a Friend day at the club. Light winds are forecast.

Notice of Race - North Island Sunburst Championship.

The North Island Sunburst Championships are to be held at the Heretaunga Boating Club 25th - 26th February 2011. The details are contained in the Notice of Race which can be downloaded from the link below. A page dedicated to the Champs will be made available on the site soon.

Commodore's Welcome to the 2011-12 Season

Welcome to the 2011-12 sailing season at Heretaunga Boating Club. We have put together a packed programme of sailing with a mix of events with something for everyone. In addition to our Champ Series, we want to make sure we get to do some sprint racing, teams sailing, a harbour sail and some variation to the usual format for handicap racing. We also have a "bring a friend day" and we'd like to have the Club packed and buzzing for that so start talking to your friends and relatives about it now.

This year we will be hosting Muritai Yacht Club at our annual regatta, which will be held in conjunction with the North Island Sunburst Champs. We will need your full support for that weekend to make sure we put on a good show.

This year we have a few junior sailors coming through from Learn to Sail that I hope will form an Opti Fleet for Saturday afternoon racing. If you can give them your support and encouragement, it'll help them enjoy their sailing and want to come every Saturday. We will continue to have mid-week training both to support our juniors and for others wanting to improve their performance.

At the recent HBC AGM the line-up of office holders and committee remains much the same. There will continue to be a number of responsibilities taken by people who aren't on the Committee. Don't wait to be asked though - offers to help out are always gratefully received. Please support us, if you are asked to help out. We are a small club and need the support of all members to run it successfully. On that theme, I'd like to thank Ian Blair for stepping up and offering to be the editor for Froth and to help out with Learn to Sail and Learn to Race.

Hamish Fenwick has put together some changes to race management for the coming season. There is guidance for Race Officers of the day to help improve the standard of our club race management, some new safety procedures, and we are investing in some new equipment to support that.

Finally - remember there is a working bee on 17th September starting at 9am. There is lots to do and the more people we have there to do it, the quicker we get it done. See you there.

Keith
